Dear Friends of Space City Ice Station,
As you know, the Clear Lake / Bay Area was impacted significantly by Hurricane IKE. We hope that you and your families were able to keep safe and that the impact to your property was less than anticipated. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to our whole ice community as well as to the area in general.
You may have also heard that the Space City rink also suffered
some significant damage to the front of the building. The link
below will take you to the rink website for a couple of pictures
of the damage.

We know that you are anxious, as are we, to put the storm behind us and start another season of hockey, figure and recreational skating.
We have some significant work ahead of us but wanted to share the following with you:
* The rink building itself was not affected. The lobby and
exercise areas have incurred some damage as has the upstairs bar area.
* We do not yet have power but are working to get it
established before the ice gets too melted
* We are presently developing an interim repair plan and have
already had discussions with local contractors. This interim
solution may not be "pretty" but it will allow the rink to be
functional and get everyone back on the ice
* We are presently cleaning the inside to be ready for when
we can welcome people back into the building
Please note that we have put the picture on the website to
discourage people from coming by to see the condition of the
rink. There is significant debris in the area and once the repair activities begin, we do not want people in the area for
Safety reasons. We know that you are anxious to know the timing for re-start and we will communicate this when we have a better sense of what is required.
We would also like to thank the many people that have already
offered their services and support to get the rink back up and
running. We sincerely appreciate the passion and sense of
community that revolves around Space City Ice Station and we
truly appreciate your patronage.
