25 years ago, 22 Feb 1980, the greatest upset in all of recorded sports:
The Miracle on Ice.
Captain Mike Eruzione knew it was so big, he retired on the spot, never needed to go to the NHL since nothing could ever top the USA college students beating the USSR.

I was only 14 in 1980 and I was considering playing for Team USA but decided to wait until 1984 to make my Olympic debut. To tune up for the Winter Olympics I played table tennis in the UP winter Olympics where I took home the 5th place medal. I didn't want to overdo it and make people catch on that I would soon be playing ice hockey for Team USA in 1984. Anyhow when Team USA won in 1980 I retired on the spot like Mike Eruzione. I instead chose to wait it out and play in the best league ever. The OHL! I'm really not that good at hockey. I suspect that probably played a small role in my decision to hold off and play in the OHL.
