As you may know, the Bay Area Houston Hockey Association (BAHHA) is having Midget tryouts for Fall 2005 beginning Wednesday, April 27, 7-8PM at Space City Ice Station (formerly Texas Ice). There will be 3 sessions for the tryouts - the second session will be Tuesday, May 3 at 7PM and the third is still TBD, but possibly at 9:15AM on Sunday, May 8. Cost for the tryouts will be $50 for 3 sessions or $20 per session if you want to pay one session at a time. Depending on player interest and talent, the BAHHA Board is willing to offer two Midget Teams, an elite Midget Major AA team (1987-88s) and a Midget Minor (1989-1990) or Midget A team (1987-1990) for the 2005-2006 season. BAHHA is working with Travis VanTighem, a former player and coach who lives in the Clear Lake Area. Travis played college hockey at Michigan Tech, and professional hockey with the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Aeros and the New Mexico Scorpions. His last year in New Mexico was spent as an Assistant Coach for the Scorpions. Travis has graciously agreed to help us in the short term and will be conducting the tryouts. He expects to know whether he can commit to coach a team for the 2005-2006 season in early May. We've shared with him our successes of last year, and the understanding that many of the eligible Majors would like to play together this year in Houston, and that a goal for the 2005-2006 season is to put together a Houston team to win the National Tier II Championship. One of the concerns, with regard to an all city Major team, is finding a central practice location. We believe Space City Ice Station is within a 50-60 mile radius for almost all Houston players. Please come explore possibilities for Midget hockey in Houston next year and forward this email to others you know who might want to play. We expect to have a parent meeting after the tryouts on Wednesday and will surely continue our conversations during the second and third tryouts. If you are interested but can't make it on Wednesday, please contact Judy (jdimarco@utmb.edu) or Ben (bdimo9@msn.com) DiMarco.

We had a great Midget Tryout session last week with over 30 skaters on the ice as well as others who indicated they were interested but could not attend the first tryout. Thanks to all players who came out and to our coaching and evaluation staff. Our second tryout session will be on Tuesday, May 3 at 7:40PM at SCIS. This is in place of the Summer league practice which may be re-scheduled for later in the week.
BAHHA is working to field two Midget teams for the 2005-2006 season. A Houston Midget Major AA team will play highly competitive hockey, including TAHA, scrimmages in Dallas and national tournaments, with a goal of winning the National Tier II Championship. A Midget Minor or Midget A team (depending on skills, interest and age of players) will play a TAHA format similar to the schedule that was played during this past season.
Midget Major AA - This team is expected to draw players from the Houston Metropolitan area. It is anticipated that the team will practice full-ice 2-3 times a week and, depending on ice availability, practice locations will include SCIS as well as another Houston rink. Estimated cost for this program is $2,500- 3,000 per player (not including player travel costs) based on a 20 man roster. Once the team is rostered, fund raising opportunities will be discussed and initiated.
Midget Minor or Midget A - This team may draw players from the Houston Metropolitan area; however, the team will practice at SCIS. Cost is expected to be equivalent to cost for the 2005 season; $1500 - $2000 per player (not including player travel costs) based on a 20 man roster. As above, once the team is rostered, fund raising opportunities will be discussed and initiated.
If you were not able to attend the first tryout session and are interested in our Midget programs, please come skate with us Tuesday, May 3rd at 7:40pm. The final tryout date will be announced after the second session.
If you have any questions regarding our program, or if you are interested but cannot attend the second session, please contact Judy DiMarco at jdimarco@utmb.edu

Plans for the BAHHA Fall 05-06 Season
TEAMS
BAHHA will field the following Travel teams for the Fall 05-06 Season: · Midget AA · Midget A/B · Bantam B · Peewee B/C
BAHHA will field the following Met teams for the Fall 05-06 Season: · JV (part of the ISHL) · Peewee (Met) · Squirt (Met) · Mite (if there is interest)
If we have enough players, additional teams will be formed at the appropriate level (A, B, C, met, house).
TRYOUTS
A lot of discussion has occurred related to having tryouts. At the older divisions there is a desire to hold tryouts earlier rather than later so teams can begin fundraising. Consideration must also be given to the coach’ s availability.
In general, each division tryout will consist of three sessions. At the Bantam (birth year 1991 and 1992) and Midget (birth years 1987-1990) divisions, only those players desiring to play on a travel team should attend tryouts. Those players that are in grades 7 through 10 and who do not make it or do not wish to participate on a travel team are eligible to tryout for the JV team that is part of the ISHL. The cost for all three tryout sessions will be $50. Participants of the Midget AA/A tryouts will be sent a separate email explaining their cost. As mentioned earlier, depending on player interest and coach availability, additional teams will be formed.
Tryouts will occur at Space City Ice Station on the following dates and times:
Midget A/B June 5 – 7:50-8:50 am, Sunday June 7 – 8:50-9:50 pm, Tuesday June 12 – 7:50-8:50 am, Sunday
Bantam B June 19 – 7:50-8:50 am, Sunday June 21 – 8:50-9:50 pm, Tuesday June 26 – 7:50-8:50 am, Sunday
Peewee B/C August 2 – 7:40-8:40 pm, Tuesday August 3 - 7:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday August 6 - 4:10-5:10 pm, Saturday
The remaining team tryouts and/or registrations will be scheduled for late July or early August and will be communicated soon.
COACHES
There has been a lot of interest in our programs this year. As a result we have a number of new coaches. Coaches named for this Fall 05-06 season are as follows: · Midget AA – Travis VanTighem · Midget A/B – Duane Ernst · Bantam B – Greg Crawford and Kirby Mitchelmore · JV – Bill Mackey
COST
The assessments will be communicated prior to the tryouts and will include:
Travel teams: · Two practices per week. · Two sets of jerseys (home and away). · 20 TAHA games
Met and House teams: · One practice per week. · Typically one game per week. · One set of jerseys.
